A More Personal Approach to Your Health

I’m Colette Fish, FNP-BC, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and founder of Hawthorn Health & Wellness. I created Hawthorn because I wanted to practice primary care differently. I wanted more time to listen, more room to look at the bigger picture, and the ability to help patients think not only about the concern that brought them in today, but about the health they want to have five, ten, or twenty years from now.

Healthcare should be more than treating illness as it comes up. I believe it should also help you understand your health, recognize your individual risks, and make realistic changes that help you feel well and stay well.

My Approach to Care

I’m passionate about helping both men and women take a more proactive approach to their health. That may mean looking more closely at cardiovascular and metabolic health, sleep, nutrition, movement and strength, preventive screening, laboratory trends, and individual risk factors. My goal is to help you understand where you are today and create a plan that is realistic, sustainable, and fits your life.

Longevity is an important part of that approach. At Hawthorn, that means focusing on the factors we can influence today to help you stay healthy, strong, and active as you age. When it makes sense, we can also take a deeper look at laboratory testing, health patterns, and risk factors to identify opportunities to improve your long-term health.

A Special Interest in Women’s Health

I’m especially passionate about women’s health and supporting women through the changes that come with perimenopause and menopause. This can be a time when many women begin to notice changes in their bodies and overall well-being but may not always feel their concerns are fully understood.

I want women to feel comfortable bringing up the things that are affecting how they feel, even when those concerns are difficult to define or have previously been brushed aside. You deserve care that takes your symptoms and goals seriously, along with the time to ask questions, understand your options, and make informed decisions about your health.

At its core, Hawthorn is still very much primary care. I believe prevention, longevity, and wellness work best when they are connected to the bigger picture. I’m here for everyday health concerns, preventive care, chronic conditions, medication management, and the questions that naturally come up as your health changes over time.

My Background

My clinical background includes primary care and urgent care, caring for both adults and children. I’ve also had the opportunity to precept and mentor other clinicians, an experience that has reinforced how much I value thoughtful clinical decision-making, continued learning, and taking the time to understand the person behind the symptoms.

One of the things I value most about being a Family Nurse Practitioner is the opportunity to care for the whole person. A lab value, diagnosis, or symptom is important, but it is only one part of the picture. Your lifestyle, family history, goals, concerns, and what matters to you should be part of the conversation too.

That philosophy is at the heart of Hawthorn. I want visits to feel collaborative and unhurried, and I want you to leave understanding not only what we’re doing, but why. Most importantly, I want you to feel like you have an active voice in your care.
